HMRC customs funding has been extended to 30 June 2021
Importers and exporters now need to complete customs declarations. For many companies they will need to either train current staff or bring in new recruits to cover the extra workload.
The Customs Grant Scheme was introduced to help you support the extra demand for customs brokerage services associated with the UK’s departure from the EU, as well as issues associated with the replacement of your current system used to process customs entries.
Grants have been made available to help you fund the training of staff and the recruitment of new customs personnel.
The staff training grant is to cover training for your existing staff. Firstly to learn the new customs declarations and customs processes and secondly to understand it. Importantly the grant can cover 100% of the cost of training for your employees, with a limit of £1,500 per person.
A £15k recruitment grant per new recruit has also been made available to be used towards salary and recruitment costs.
The grants will no doubt be welcomed by importers and exporters, supply chain businesses and the freight forwarding industry.
