Traffic Planner

Job Overview

  • Salary Offer £30,000 Circa

We are looking for an experienced Traffic Planner to join our Special Projects team working in Rochester, Kent.

Job Purpose

Responsible for the timely planning of routes and scheduling delivery times to ensure the customer receives first class service in the most efficient and cost-effective manner for the company.

Ensure fleet resource is used to full capability, deal with daily delivery fluctuations seeking help and advice where necessary from the operations manager.

Maximise driver output by ensuring drivers are fully aware of workload requirements, and via progress checking drivers through the day.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external customers, departments, and other depots to plan routes, schedule delivery times to ensure the smooth running of the operation, and ensure vehicles are utilized in the most efficient manner.
  • Prioritise and plan drivers’ workloads, ensuring driver brief and debriefs are carried out without exception.
  • Promote and encourage health and safety adherence, and mindful of environmental impact.
  • Flag up issues to management in good time, suggest solutions to issues/problems.
  • Maintain traffic management system (TMS) to ensure all details entered are accurate and completed in full.
  • Ensure adherence to Transport Operation compliance levels, with regards driver tachograph, working hours and vehicle servicing requirements.
  • Source agency drivers in adherence to company policy, ensure agency drivers are fully inducted before engaging on to work.
  • Provide support to colleagues and management as appropriate.
  • Creation of management information and reports.
  • To ensure that ALL Swain assets are fully in service and MOT before being released for collections/deliveries.

 Person Specification

Essential

  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced transport environment
  • Previous driver management experience
  • Excellent UK geographical knowledge
  • Knowledge of Mandata or similar transport management system
  • IT literate and proficient in MS office suite
  • Ability to plan and amend delivery schedules
  • Good communicator
  • Ability to adapt in a changing environment
  • Customer focused
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities
  • Current transport legislation knowledge

  • Annual Salary circa £30,000 (dependant on experience)

Hours 

  • 10 Hour Shifts with a 1-hour lunch break
  • Rotating shifts 7am – 5pm, 8am – 6pm, 9am – 7pm
  • Saturday Shift (1 in 5) 7am to 12pm (Subject to change)
