Accountable for setting-up carrier and vendor contracts, and coordinating all activities between field locations, hubs, contracted carriers and other departments as appropriate to ensure the most expedient movement of customer materials. Also, responsible for negotiations for both purchased transportation capacity and the selling of loads; works with the DAT boards, supervises dispatchers; and ensures compliance of company policies and procedures, ISO guidelines and regulatory requirements. Models and acts in accordance with our guiding principles and core values.
What are you going to do?
Supervise and schedule dispatchers for a 24/7 operation.
Negotiate spot contracts with carriers and customers.
Control equipment trailers, tractors and rail cars.
Support the affiliate network with capacity requirements.
Manage and forecast capacity needs for all modes of transportation.
Manage the spot quote department.
Keep current on inter-modal pricing and service commitments.
Ensure prompt and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with movement of inbound and outbound shipments.
Hire, supervise and train dispatch personnel.
Ensure that all personnel are providing a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
Communicate pending work and/or unresolved problems to the following shift personnel and the operations manager.
Accurately manage and maintain departmental administrative tasks such as accounting, reporting and recordkeeping in accordance with internal policies and state and federal regulations.
Conduct annual performance reviews for all staff within department.
Address all employee performance problems promptly and directly in accordance with personnel policies.
Perform other duties as needed.
What are we looking for?
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred; or equivalent combination of work experience and completion of the LDP Program.
Minimum four years related experience.
Minimum three years industry experience preferred.
Minimum one year supervisory or managerial experience required

Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Computer Skills
Computer literate
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
Other Skills/Experience
Knowledgeable of inter-modal pricing, service agreements and DAT Board.
In-depth knowledge of dispatch functions
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of U.S. and/or international currency, weight, volume and distance measurements.
Basic understanding of business financial principles including P & L’s, budgets, payroll, financial reporting and expense control.
