Export Assistant Manager – London – UK

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage team workload and ensure smooth running of the day-to-day operation in adherence to the company’s policy and procedures
  • Drive continuous improvements to day-to-day operations, and identify opportunities to provide best-in-class export solutions to clients
  • Support Head of Export in managing P&L and achieving financial targets
  • Drive customer service excellence by ensuring the team is meeting operational KPI’s and comply with Standard Operation Procedures
  • Act as an escalation point for customer service issues
  • Negotiate rates and build strong relationship with vendors (shipping line, transport companies and others) in order to maximise efficiencies and profitability
  • Respond to requests for proposal, quotation or information timely and with market competitive pricing matching the scope of service required by the customer.
  • Liaise effectively with overseas network in order to drive business development on targeted trade lanes
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients in order to explore opportunities to develop further business
  • Account Management of key clients with development and implementation of growth and retention strategy; Take an active role in the onboarding of new clients
  • Work closely with the Marketing Team to build and execute strategic export marketing campaigns on target areas
  • Ensure team complies with AEO requirements, customs procedures, credit policy as well as all other company policies and procedures
  • Responsible for data health in CargoWise
  • Contribute to the effective weekly department meetings with the team
  • Support with the recruitment, management, coaching of a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
  • Provide timely and accurate management information as required.

Desirable experience and qualities

  • Previous export ocean freight experience within a similar environment is essential
  • Proactive with strong organisation and prioritising skills
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a team
  • Commercially minded with the ability to develop and secure new business opportunities
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build strong customer relationships
  • Initiative and ability to work in autonomy
  • Previous experience with Cargo Wise will be an advantage
