Customer Sales Solutions Clerk – Heathrow – UK

Job Overview

Job Purpose

The key objective of the CSS Desk is to ensure that all rate enquiries generated from our client’s commercial team and the company’s Network are responded to within the deadline and that all requests are recorded and monitored so that the best pricing levels are provided to our customers and the network at all times

  • Be Fully Multimodal – Air Imports, Air Cross Trade, Road Imports, Road Cross Trade, Rail Imports & Rail Cross Trade

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide initial point of contact for the client’s network for the receipt of quotations, ensuring that all requests are responded to within 4hrs
  • Liaison with The Gateway division for any supporting assistance on Airline choices/services
  • To manage and control, follow up, measure and analyse success of all quote requests
  • Assist Product Managers with spot pricing for sales team
  • Be the Airline liaison contact working closely with Air Product manager to negotiate rates, improve understanding of airline products and services and airline performance
  • Work with Product to identify trade lanes and markets/trade lanes for development and consolidation programme for the UK
  • Support Product with the development and management of ‘route development plans’ to include choice of carrier, days of service, rate structure and communications
  • Take financial responsibility for both costs and revenue
  • Demonstrate flexibility and team skills within the department to ensure consistent and uninterrupted service to the client and their customers
  • Customer contact is paramount and relationship building is essential from day one, this to be made through phone and e-mail communications
  • Ensure all enquiries or other communications are actioned promptly and efficiently

  • Maintain mailboxes under your control
  • To operate within a multifunctional team and to compliment the offering of client solutions
  • GDP training to be completed as detailed in the GDP training matrix

Any other delegated tasks as deemed reasonable as assigned by the reporting superior

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of Airfreight/Sea freight/Road freight – inbound, outbound and cross trade
  • Knowledge of Airfreight, ocean, road and rail pricing (import, export and cross trade)
  • Knowledge of and understanding of our Aerospace vertical
  • Good ICT skills
  • Confident presentation and ability to be client facing
  • Good communication skills, both verbal & written
  • Friendly, calm and professional manner
  • Accustomed to working to fixed deadlines and under pressure
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and self-motivated
  • Well organized with the ability to work closely with internal departments
  • Flexible working hours may be required during busy periods


  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the departmental and company procedure manual.
  • Ensure that I understand the Rules and Regulations of all statutory bodies
