Your Role

Kuehne + Nagel have an extensive network of Customer Care Locations across the UK providing excellent customer service to our customers. These locations are supported by powerful operational centres who ensure that our shipments move on time across Air, Sea and Road. As Branch Manager of our Birmingham operation which generates in excess of 35 million gross profit, you’ll grow your team (c.120 direct reports and ‘site responsibility’ for over 350 heads) in line with your forecasts and focus on profitable growth for KN. You’ll also ensure that we deliver against our Corporate sustainability ambitions, bringing them to life at a local level. You’ll be supported by the wider KN operational and functional teams to be successful in making KN the best company to do business with and the best company to work for.

Your Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the local P&L and creation and the local business case for growth, generation of new profit making initiatives while applying risk and return criteria and skilled negotiation of customer contracts to create a win-win environment.
  • Understand customer needs and provide solutions which meet their requirement to retain / grow KN share of wallet while actively soliciting new business in the designated territory through calls and sales visits
  • Lead the regional customer experience development and exceed customer expectation (how customers engage with us) to achieve the highest customer satisfaction standards
  • Maintains ongoing market analysis so that we are aware of market and competitor activity
  • Actively plan and co-ordinate the local area sales strategy, ensuring consistent and regular contact is maintained with existing and potential Customers. Ensuring that operational and financial issues are resolved in a timely and efficient manner
  • People – Champion colleague growth, development and stretch to build high performing teams across the Region. This will include vocational training, leadership development, talent and succession management, coaching for success and career development
  • QSHE – Local lead for Quality, Security, Health, Environment
  • Sustainability – Champion the Blue4Green and the sustainability agenda within the local area

Your Skills and Experiences

  • Management and Leadership experience within a Freight Forwarding/Logistics Business with Sales/ Account Management & development focus.
  • Commercially strategic with extensive P&L management and the creation and development of business case experience.
  • Ability to co-ordinate / plan activities across multiple business fields
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with internal/external customers and stakeholders at senior level
  • Ability to motivate, develop and support a large team through cultural change
  • Self-starter with a competitive and entrepreneurial drive and strategic vision
  • Passionate about Customer Care across the entire lifecycle
  • Understands the ‘bigger picture’ but does not lose sight of the detail
